The Westchester Bank, Wilson Jewelers Share Business, Community Partnership

Published 10/26/2015

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. The relationship between Wilson & Sons Jewelers and The Westchester Bank extends far beyond their business dealings.

Wilson Jewelers, which has been in Westchester County for 110 years with locations in Scarsdale and Mount Kisco, maxes out on its support of community organizations and nonprofits. So too, does The Westchester Bank.

Michael Wilson, who runs the jewelry business with his brother, Matt, said it’s not uncommon for them to run into The Westchester Bank President and Chief Executive Officer, John Tolomer, at community functions. Wilson and Tolomer met at a meeting of The Red Tie Society, an organization that supports Go Red For Women, a program of the American Heart Association. Now, they frequently sync up at various events throughout Westchester.

“We were at The Guiding Eyes for the Blind golf outing earlier this year,’’ Wilson remembered. “It was raining and my brother had an umbrella with the logo from another bank. John came up and goodnaturedly said ‘What are you doing with that?’ He got us an umbrella with The Westchester Bank logo on it and played with it for the rest of the day. There was some ribbing going on during the day, but seeing John at events like that makes us closer and our bond stronger.”

The Westchester Bank supports a wide range of charitable causes, ranging from the March of Dimes March for Babies to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s upcoming Light The Night Walk on Nov. 7 at Rye Playland.

Its focus on corporate responsibility to support community organizations is matched by Wilson and Sons. The jeweler supports groups that include the Westchester Philharmonic, Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester, HoffBarthelson Music School, Greyston Bakery, American Diabetes Association and Visiting Nurse Service of Westchester. They also sponsored seven Little League teams in Scarsdale this past summer.

“For both of us, it sends a message to our clients that we’re invested in the community,’’ Wilson said. “I go to so many events, and people are always coming up to me to say thank you. Within the community, we’ve made so many friendships and bonds. It’s the same for The Westchester Bank.”

When the Wilson brothers were seeking a new bank to work with two years ago, they contacted Tolomer. Instantly, the jewelers knew they had a perfect banking and community partner.

“John welcomed my call with open arms,’’ Wilson said. “You can’t call most banks these days and have a nice conversation. He made me feel very comfortable and was not only interested in getting to know our business, but also wanted to know about us and our families. Working with them you get a small town, homey feeling. That’s hard to find these days.”
